BP will close BP Solar

BP will close division BP Solar which is engaged in workings out in the field of solar power. Head BP Solar Mike Petrucci has informed on it.

Bureau BP Solar created forty years ago close because of profitability decrease. In the last half a year solar energy didn’t bring the income.

The oil company has started to reduce workings out in the field of solar power two years ago. It has been in this time dismissed 1,65 thousand persons. BP also has reduced capacities in the USA, Spain and Australia.

However the oil giant doesn’t refuse alternative energy. The company till 2015 will enclose 8 billion dollars in BP Alternative Energy which is engaged in workings out in the field of wind power and biofuel.

One year ago BP has started to sell some actives to compensate losses from explosion of an oil platform in Gulf of Mexico in April of last year. In the beginning of December the company has sold gas division in Canada for 1,67 billion dollars.

In the end of November at British the transaction on sale of actives in Argentina for which it was planned to help 7 billion dollars was cancelled. Management ВР assures that gets rid of actives to concentrate on the basic business.

Not only ВР recently recognized solar power unprofitable. So, recently on bankruptcy have submitted German Solon and American Solyndra. For the last year cost of solar batteries has fallen twice — basically because of the high offer of the Chinese manufacturers.
